sick dogs?

Kinda weird situation...Two of our dogs have gotten ill-maybe some sort of infection...Low white count, etc Vet isn't sure but the only change in their environment is the pond where they get all their water. The dogs are NEVER around other dogs. The vet said MAYBE some protozoa or such? Really don't know but what I need to know is how to check the pond water for something like that. Anyone know how to go about that? Thanks All
