I have been trying to get this guy since early spring every time I would get close he would go in the pond and we haven't seen him for a while so I thought he left. Tonight we let our dog out and she has a routine of going to different areas of the yard to check her holes for moles, mice and chipmunks and this time she found the snake hiding in some rocks by my waterfall. I was able to get him out after about 10 minutes, put him in a tote and took down the road to release him. He used to swim in the pond and the last time I saw him he was 1/3 of the size he was today so I am sure he was feasting on my frogs, chipmunks and maybe some fish.

Glad you didn't kill it, they are great for rodent control! Nice healthy looking snake.
My pup has her hunting spots also, she found a turtle today, could not figure out what to do with it.

Wish I could help, but I have never seen that type pattern before. Not something I would run into this far south I guess.
