I was so happy to have the ponds make it thru the snow and still have everything running. Yesterday I notice that one pond was low. The pipe going to one of the stock tanks had slipped off and some of the water was ut. Easy fix until I notice today that the water level is still dropping. Back down to find melted ice and snow blocking outflow pipe and causing and overflow. Another easy fix! Then I see water running out of the bottom of the stock tank! I just got new filter media and grates to redo both 150 gallon tanks and now I have to start over! Luckily I have another150 gallon Rubbermaid tank so just a matter of putting in the drains and plumbing the supply line. It never ends!

sorry to hear and that is the main reason I shut my pumps down .Seems strange a stock tank would crack like that I have several some used some new and none have cracked yet ,so guessing I have been lucky .They are made to stay outside no matter what .My neighbor uses them for his horses all winter also .I had mine over flow from freezing before I got pumps turned off but liner around the stock tank kept it from going any wheres and with it melted now it just ran back into the pond .I should have turned the pumps off before it started to freeze up but I got busy and when i did look at cameras I realized it and shut them off .

You need double doors on your basement .I made builder put doubles in . I learned from my other house wider doors are always better no matter where they are .You may have to take the door off it's hinges .You can also buy swing free hinges ,they are for handicap accessible homes but work great for lots of uses .

Snow is melting fast here but down with a bad cold now so work on tank will have to wait. We have sliding doors on basement so we can bring the tank in by removing the doors. I had just received the new filter media for the filters so now it will be a complete rebuild. Bad thing is, this tank was just moved last year and we were to move the other one this year, That may not get done.

I miss my pond, it's still there and running, but I mostly see it thru the bedroom window at night. Or at 5am when it's still dark. Every time I do go look, it's the same ol winter pond, I don't even have any ice to worry about.

Me too Peter, It's dark when I leave for work, and dark when I get home. I really want to go out and sit by it with a cold beer and a book to read.

The fish in both ponds seem to be doing fine. I do need to clear some leaves off the bottom of the one pond. The wind blew a bunch in.

If I sat out by my pond at this time of year, I would definitely catch a cold.........

As for the freezing aspect, whenever I build anything outdoors I take into consideration the effects of freezing water. Freezing temperatures can be incredibly destructive.
