Do you know how the Wanvisa varigated hardy water lily was developed and got its name? It actually started out as a Joey Tomicik in Thailand and was named for an important day in the Buddhist tradition - it was the first hardy to win the IWGS Waterlily of the Year competition after 12 tropical winners! Here's the link to the story:

It is a beautiful lily. Does not bloom a lot but the flower is beautiful.

I got one earlier this spring, and it's slowly putting up leaves, but no flower buds yet. Spoke to a grower a little north of us, and found out he was having a lot of problems overwintering them. He feels it's probably a hybrid hardy/tropical, and may only be hardy in zones 6 and up. But the pictures I've seen of them were beautiful, so I'll give them a try!

We were in the 6 level last two winters if not colder. The pond water could not be much colder, ice down 12 plus inches thick.

It is a slow grower, This is the second summer, I got it in the fall (two falls ago) a tuber around one inch in size. It now has two tubers around 4 inches in size, not a heavy bloomer but so darn pretty when it does.

So far it has a foot print smaller than my other lilies. So far well behaved.
per the net 4-5 foot diameter spread, which is not bad for a lily
