My lantana comes back every year and spreads I guess from the seed at the end of the season
Wow! I am also in Virginia (right outside of DC), and Lantana is absolutely an annual here. My sister (who lives 3 miles away) has occasionally gotten it to return if we have a warm winter and she heavily covers it in leaf mulch, but I've never gotten it to return.

lol I get plants rated for here and they still die. My rule, you don't survive winter, you are history!

I live 15 minutes from the NC border so it comes back in protected areas of my yard or when the winters are milder ,lie this past winter .The ones planted near the house survive and the ones by other taller plants or have extra mulch around them survive

What's the plant in the foreground?

My first thought was that it kinda looks a lot like Japanese knotweed.. but the flowers are different, so I'm guessing it's something else?

Edit: now that I Google image search it, it, it really doesn't look much like knotweed.. hmm. It does look familiar though

Very pretty! I love lantana!

Do you mean the heart shaped leaves @brc ? My first thought was knotweed too...
