I started with 5 gold fish in a 700 GAL pond and now there are about 20 fry sizes from 1 inch to about 1/2 inch.My question is should i remove the first 5 or keep the 20 fry and watch them grow. Our village has a large pond that i will put them in.

Does you village allow you to place goldfish in the pond? I've been fortunate to place my unwanted fry in a large pond on private property, but got their permission first and it doesn't open to other water ways.

As to which fish to keep, that's up to you....what would you enjoy the most ?

Craigslist, Freecycle are options. Do not release fish in a local waterway! That is how we end up with things like snakeheads destroying all native species.

Which part or Georgia do you live? There is an Aquarium fish club in Atlanta. Their members may be interested.

@420benz if they let you put them in make sure they don't add chemicals to the water. Does this pond just sit there and is it a natural earth bottom pond? Does water refill it w/just rain water or? Does it have a filter? Wonder if kids will be feeding them once they see them there? If so this might not be so good for the fish and the pond. Just something to think about and who will be caring for them once they are in there if something goes wrong? Just make sure you think this out first before you do it.

I know you need to rehome fish but think about where they will go. I have sold koi to people who told me they had ponds only to see my fish on craigslist in an aquarium!

This pond is spring fed and is stocked every year. We are allowed to fish and feed them.

Stocked w/trout or ? I wonder now if they will let you put the goldfish in as that may not be good for the stocked fish and wouldn't the fishing hooks hurt the goldfish?
