Top lip of koi white and rotting also had bloat.

Now we have another new fish with a spot on its lip. Our pond is large and well established. We were told by shop to add special salt to the pond. I have read that this is not a good idea. I really don't want to lose any more fish. What should I do.

• HOW BIG IS YOUR POND?
• HOW LONG HAS YOUR POND BEEN UP AND RUNNING?
• WHAT KIND OF FILTRATION DO YOU HAVE?
• HOW OLD IS THIS KOI — your message said “another new fish” — ?
• DO YOU QUARANTINE YOUR NEW FISH BEFORE ADDING THEM IN WITH THE OTHER FISH?
• DOES THIS KOI HAVE ANY OTHER PROBLEMS OR BEHAVIORAL CHANGES?
• HOW MANY FISH DO YOU HAVE AND HOW BIG ARE THEY?
• ARE ANY OTHER FISH SHOWING SIGNS OF A PROBLEM?
• DO YOU HAVE ANY ROCKS OR SHARP PLACES IN THE POND?
• DO YOU HAVE ANY LOCAL PREDATORS (like birds, weasels, raccoons, etc)?
• HAVE YOU RECENTLY MADE ANY CHANGES TO YOUR POND / ADDED NEW FISH, ETC.?
• DO YOU TEST YOUR WATER FOR AMMONIA, NITRITES, NITRATES, pH....? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US THESE RESULTS OF YOUR WATER TESTS — give us the number results, not saying “they are good,” etc.
