Goldfish and koi sometimes get skin, fin, or gill ulcers that, left untreated, can get get infected, resulting in a fatal septicemia. The cause may be injury, such as occurs during spawning or rubbing, skin parasites, or poor water quality. Caught early and treated, the ulcers will heal quickly. Of course, the cause must be addressed as well. Here are a couple of articles that explain how you can treat them. I am not promoting any products, just providing information.
