Goldfish and koi sometimes get skin, fin, or gill ulcers that, left untreated, can get get infected, resulting in a fatal septicemia. The cause may be injury, such as occurs during spawning or rubbing, skin parasites, or poor water quality. Caught early and treated, the ulcers will heal quickly.
