Hi everyone, I have a potted lotus I dug up because it was looking terrible. The tuber itself looks completely rotted - there’s no pretty or firm spots on it. All the vines come from one spot on the tuber and that is starting to ro about a foot up the vine now too. Is there anything that can be done? Will it survive without a tuber if I cut everything dead off. Is it possible the structure I’m holding my picture is a new baby tuber? Please help! Thank you.

Looks perhaps like there could be hope for it in that last photo but I'm no expert on Lotus.

2nd and 3rd pics looks like there might be a chance. Just be careful not to bury the grow points and no fertilizer until you get a few aerial leaves

Everything I have read says you have to be super duper careful with lotus tubers and really shouldn't dig them up until they are dormant. Any damage to the tuber will rot the whole thing. Same with cutting off stems below the water level. Water will rush in and rot the tuber. Any cutting should be done well above the water level. I have a couple that have outgrown their pots - but I am too afraid to disturb them! I will be interested to read any expert advice you get. Good luck!

The last picture looks like a good tuber, they are real fragile. Place it on the top of the soil, held down by a rock. I have planted a few doing that and they did fine.

Mine have their own pond 300 gallon stock tank, they grow free. Tons of buds this year.
