My yellow bellie slider returned after a 9 month vacation god knows where to ? thaught he /she had lost its sight in one eye on it's return, Now totally healed after multiple bathing with saline water, He/she disappered with its mate the other one has not returned, My question is can i introduce another turtle to my pond ? Information seems rather contradictory some say they would fight, others say no problem, your advice would be much apprciatted. Thankyou in advance Mike

Gee, I wish I could help, but I'm only familiar with box turtles. I don't know about fighting 'cause usually when I see wild pond turtles, they're always basking on a log in large groups, so that seems to say they're not territorial.

I think if that if they are "Yellow Bellied" they'd be to cowardly to fight.

Do you have a fence around your pond to prevent them from walking away again?

My friend up the road has a bunch of red eared sliders and they never fight w/ each other. She has added to the group as they come in as rescues from people that don't want them anymore.

My group of four RES live together peacefully year-round. They are all females. Not sure what to make of this.... any group of females I've ever known was constantly arguing! Well, except for turtles. ;)

They come in once the water turns cold, and spend the cold months in the basement. Ontario's winter is too cold for sliders.
