I wonder if you can help me? Our pond has two fat fish in. They seem quite round and distended on their tummy. I can’t see any pine coneing of their scales so I’m not too sure it’s dropsy.
The two fish came from a pond that we inherited in the back garden. The pond wasn’t great and constantly leaked. We had a hose in constantly to try and keep the water levels up. In the end it emptied too much and we bought and built them a larger new pond.
My husband thinks they have been this big in the past and thinks because it’s May, it’s eggs. I’m not too sure. Neither of us have had pond fish before we moved to this house.
We had an attack from a heron yesterday who took some of the little ones. We built more hides for them and secured the heron net better as well. The attack caused the ammonia to rise but my husband has sorted that now.
I just wondered if people thought this may be eggs or something more serious?
