Two ponds and a stream

So I am planning on making two ponds with a deep stream and I'm wandering if I can put fish in both sides without them dying or them ending up in one pond or do I need some kind of way to get them to both ponds without running water and will they try to swim up the stream.

Welcome to our group! With a deep stream the fish will swim from one pond to the other.

Your fish will certainly move from pond to pond. Why would you not want them to do so?

And there's no guarantee your fish won't die, but having two ponds connected by a stream won't be a factor.

I guess re-reading your post I'm a bit confused... do you WANT the fish to move from pond to pond or not?

I do I was worried that they either might kill themselves getting up to it or just refuse to go up the stream
