This goldfish is about five years old. For the last two years it floats upside down like it's dead. If you get near it, it acts normal. It eats fine. Has anyone ever seen this before?

Yep I have had them and eventually they die and I don't know what caused mine to get this way. If they still eat and swim I leave them alone but if they just lay there I take them out and put in a separate container hoping no others get whatever is wrong if it is even contagious. Mine have had no pine cone effect w/their scales which would signify dropsy. The belly feels hard so I don't think they were egg bound either. Maybe a tumor?

It is possible it has a swim bladder disease. Not contagious, if I remember correctly, but you can “google” it for more info.

Swim bladder has taken a toll on my goldies. This is the last time I purchase the ornate chubby bodied goldfish. I've had six out of sixteen get swim bladder.
