Hi guys brainstorming here could I use a uv light to illuminate my pond and sterilize the water I was thinking mounting couple lights to the sides ood my pond

No.
UV lights are pretty specific and should not be used for general lighting.

That's what I needed thank you what is some cheap easily obtained filter media for a diy filter

I've seen some people here use quilt batting or plastic pot scrubbers.
It depends on what it's purpose is going to be, trapping detritus or a media for bacteria.

We are using cut up plastic milk bottles as a filter medium, as long as it cant harm your fish you could use many other things
