I'm new to this site but after reading I knew this would give me the answers I need. Were thinking of either a uv light or ion gen to keep our water clear.

Ion generators are worthless in ponds, almost as worthless as they are in pools.
UV is 100% effective in clearing green water in 3-5 days.

I have seen one pond here that uses that ion thing and he has to change out a rod or something and his pond was clear but sure was not cheap to buy it .

I have a bog for my pond, no green water or algae issues, so can't help you with your ?? but glad you joined.
