Vegetable garden in bog filter

Is anyone growing garden veggie’s in their bog filter? I am wanting to do it but not sure how to start

Just pop them in! We’ve grown tomatoes in ours over the years - works great!

If I start from seed should I germinate them in pots first?

I WOULD then drop paper towel dowh to the water in the bog plants in an upland area the paper towel will bring up the water untill the roots can reach

I just stick the roots directly into the gravel. I usually wait till the plants are 8-10" tall.

Most defiantly need to start with seedlings. Although I’ve had great success with tomato cuttings too.

I get starts from a plant nursery, rinse most of the dirt off, and pop them in. If you cut both ends out of a largish food can, you can sink it into the gravel, scoop some out, put the plant in, and pull the can out. His helps protect the roots while transplanting. I’ve raised kale, strawberries, peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, and cucumbers this way.
