They are one of the more delicate tropical lilies. They don't over winter well. they are started by seed and they get huge. a single leaf can get up to 6 feet across. a mature plant can cover well over 30 feet in diameter. They are impressive but not for small ponds, (Under 10,000 gallons)

I have to bring any tropical in for the winter up here. lol
I understood they would grow only to the space/room they have? people have grown them in large totes/pots even.
I have a large/shallow natural pond I can put him in also.

Those always remind me of The Wizard of Oz in the pond at the beginning...at least I think they are the same.

They have a big grower of them in NC ,a hubby and his wife started them with there son and then turned there swimming pool into a place for them and then added another pool to expand on them .They have spines on the back of them that will rip your skin wide open .

They only raise the lilies and have no fish .The first time I saw there set up was on UNC tv and then saw they had a you tube video also .They use thick rubber glove to pick the edge of the pad up and they have lots of people come to stand on the pads to take pics .

Oh ok but sure would be one way to stop your koi from eating your lily pads!
