Hello All,

I recently purchased a new house in san jose, ca & it had a KOI Pond. I have lots of questions but have an immediate problem with the filtration system.

Info on Pond;
Size; 4000 gallons
Age: 13 years
Number of KOI: 8

Filters:
Three 5ft by 30 in vortex, 120 gallons each with ribbon media
One 4.5ft by 5 ft rock and gravel filter with spa blower, 596 gallons

Problem 1: There are three vortex filters which is supposidly gravity fed. My problem is the middle vortex filter seems to be lower then the other two and water leaks out of the top. If I leave the system running water will drop a couple inches in the pond. Do i need to raise up the middle filter or do i need to lower the third filter or something else? Any advice on what i need to do (and how) would be appreciated?

Problem 2: My 3 filters are about 50% burried and there is no valve at the bottom to drain the waste. I assume I need to siphon out the waste but not sure how to siphon it. Is there any recommended way to clean out the vortex filter?

Problem 3: What maintenance is needed for the big rock and gravel filter?

Thanks,
Eric

Welcome to the forum
Your pond is easy on the eye
You can drop a pump in the filters and suck them out
