Warm - then cold - then warm again - how will the fish react?

So it was freakin' freezing in CO this last weekend. Brought in all the marginals to avoid them dying in the snow. Pond dropped into the 50's and as expected the Koi all cuddled up in the bottom.

Now it is forecast to hit 80 by Sunday and being that my pond is smaller (

you can feed them as long as your water is above 50* but feed them spring / fall formula food..its easier to digest and thats important in the lower water temps, as their digestive systems slow down..hard to digest high protein foods can block and stop up their digestive tract and cause problems, even death. feed light meals a couple times a day rather than one bigger one.. they may feed vigorously in an attempt to build reserves for winter...but resist the temptation to overfeed.

go ahead and feed.. try at 55* if they eat fine if they dont theres not much you can do. but the feeding bottom line is 50* water temp not air. drop some food in wait 10 min. if they havent touched it skim it out. try again later as long as its over 50*. just make sure to use spring / fall food.
