My new pond has been filled for 4 days and just today I saw a water bug kicking around under the surface. What is up with that?? I've seen em work their way into our old above ground pool when we're lax on the chlorine too but that has been torn down for a month now.

So what gives? How do they seem to show up in water so fast??

Most water bugs catch a lift from birds and ducks if not simply the winds.

If you build it they will come!

Somewhere I have a picture of our pond build when we had gotten the liner down the night before and then had a light rain over night, just enough that some water collected in a fold along the edge and the next morning, lo and behold, there was a little frog enjoying that tiny little pool. I was like "well, if you like THAT wait until you see what we have planned!"

Ah ha

They "fly between water bodies at night" apparently. Never knew they had wings but it makes sense.

Did you get that quote from my favorite pond book??

Itt is titled "Zen and the Art of Pond Building"

That would honestly be awesome if more people here had read that :)

I better not think of all the little critters that might inhabit the pond, or I won't be able to go in it anymore

Field of dreams: a guy ends up building a baseball firld in his corn field, ghosts of great players come to play. That’s what I recall, I haven’t watched it in years, but I liked it. Not scary, but the moral I got was follow your dream.
