I have a 55 gallon rain barrel that I use for watering plants. I'd like to use the water in my pond too, but we put those mosquito donuts in them. Does anyone know if these donuts will hurt the fish and plants?

the dunks are fish/plant safe. And PS3 is right, if your rain is from roof run-off then it can have all sorts of things from the roof tiles.

I know for a fact that is NOT good. My friend actually put those donuts in her pond because she saw larvae in her small pond and the 24 hours after the donut was put in ALL 8 of her fish died.
PLEASE don't make that mistake.......

I will not argue with what happened with your friend's fish, but the mosquito dunks are sold as not harming people, pets, wildlife and fish. It's basically a natural, biological deterrent that stops the natural birthing cycle of the larvae. That's just what the product states.

Now, whether you want to go ahead and use it is another matter.

I've used the mosquito dunks in a 150 stock tank with 5 little koi in it with no problems.
Those 5 little fish are 2' long now.

I do catch all of my rain water it goes through pipes from my gutters, i can hold about 4000
gal in the back yard for the trees.. I can only hold about 1000 gal in the front yard ..
My ponds only get what falls into them no runoff at all

I live in Colorado Springs, Co and it is against the law to capture rainwater from the gutters. Wish we could. Water is a hot commodity and expensive.

seems like a bit of a silly law ! here in the uk we are encouraged to use water buts to catch rain water for our garden plants to save our tap water

If it lands on your property it should be yours
I guess the state has all the rain rights :)
