Dear fellow pond enthusiast,

Background: I just moved into a house in Maryland with a round pond ~5ft diameter/3ft deepjust opened the pond for the spring. We have a pressurized biofilter hooked up to a uv light clarifier and 1ft waterfall box with biofilter media. The previous owners told us there are 8 fish in there. I’ve personally seen maybe 5 or so koi but the water is green so I might be miscounting.

I was skimming the pond today and noticed a small orange blob floating in the water. Upon closer inspection, it looks like 2 gooey blobs were floating. Is it possible one of the fish in the pond is hurt? What could this kind be? I have attached pictures for your review.

thank you for your help!

I should also add that there is one orange fish food pellet in the middle of the goo in the attached picture. Is it possible that the fish are throwing it up since they are very similar in color?

Welcome! Not sure myself. How cold is your water, type of food? Maybe too cold and they are not digesting food properly?

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. I did find a dead frog in there earlier this week... I just hope the fish are okay
