What do you guys think of this combo filter idea

Hey i saw someone on another forumbuild a diy filter like the upper part of my design, so i went ahead, since my space is limited and thought to myself, what if i add the Mech filter how my combo filter currently is. Would this work well in your eyes?

would be in a 55 gal barrel, using prob K1 media???

To me it looks like it would work fine. It is similar to the stock tank filter in the DIY area here, in a way. That one looks more complicated. You can just put some of the inexpensive strapping media on top of the matala mats, that's what I am going to do. I will probably add an airstone to the upper bio-media, not that it is totally necessary.

yep, that would work fine. What you're describing is a moving bed filter. The air will force the K1 media (which is excellent stuff) to roil and boil in that small inner basket/bucket. It makes a very good filter.
