What is the black stuff growing on my waterfall? Is it a problem?

Minnesota. Approx 70-80f. Goldfish, trapdoor snails, filter box, 1 hyancinth 1 lettuce.

I don't think it's a matter of growing. I think it's sludge from waste. I had an issue like that. I cleaned my filters and added an Eco cleaner. I also clanged some water out and added carbon to clear up some of the brown water coloring

It's normal, even with mechanical filtration.

Leave it.

If it bothers you that much, pressure wash it off. It's not like it occurred overnight and you'll have to do it every day.

Hydrogen peroxide will clean that off - we use sodium percarbonate. Sold commercially by pond suppliers or you can just buy the compound (for about 1/100th of the cost).
