Hi - this is my first post, so my apologies if I get it wrong. I've got a new garden pond (about three months old) in SE England. It is starting to get populated by all sorts of things, and this morning I found this little beast swimming around several inches under the surface. Can anyone help me to identify it? Thanks in advance.

That was my initial thought, but this beastie has 8 legs, not 6, so presumably in some kind of arachnid. I've looked up spiders commonly found in UK ponds but haven't been able to find this.

can't disagree with others on that one, how big is it? based on the picture it looks fairly large, and I haven't seen a tick that large well, ever!
