I use the hose from lowes or i buy it on ebay .I found the hose at lowes last a long time you just have to take an air stone with you to make sure you get the right size .I have always cleaned mine every couple of months and have some that are at least 8 years old .they give off as much air as the new ones i got with my laguna aerator .I clean mine every 2 or 3 months or try to .

@bettasngoldfish I use the aquarium-sized tubing, as well. The aerator has something like a 1/2" outlet, but comes with an adapter to convert it to 6 of the smaller outlets.

....and I just went outside to see what size the pump is. Broke off 2 of the tubing nipple thingys!!!!! They were pretty brittle, so it was just waiting to happen. Darn! Well, guess I'll be ordering a replacement adapter. Fortunately, the water temp is staying in the low 80's and with my various spitters, etc., things should be OK for a few days w/out the air.

Hmm, The pump is good size wise.

I guess you should try a different type of stone. Just don't get the cheap blue or black stones from the pet stores. They don't usually produce much air and they also break easily (mostly when you go to change out the tubing, the plastic end part in the stone will usually end up breaking off)

That's the bad thing with plastic, it does get brittle and crack or break.

When I did saltwater I'd spend $$ on air-stones in the protein skimmer. I had my pond for 20+ yrs before someone here convinced me they would be beneficial in the pond. Duhh, now I'm running three and the waters never been better.

Way late to this thread, but...
Does a pond really NEED an airstone?
Surface agitation should be more than sufficient, yes?
Thanks!

You need to have circulation throughout the whole pond depth.
You can accomplish this with your water pumps or with the help of airstones.
Surface agitation is not enough.
