I want to order some plants for new pond and wanted to put some in the top of the bio filter, what kind do you guys typically use and how soon before I put them in there? If all goes according to plan the filter will start running tomorrow evening, the water has been in the pond for about a week now and I have it just circulating with a small pump for now. It is somewhere between 1000-1200 gallons.

Wait till you have added fish and start seeing ammonia. They will starve if you add them now.
