Welcome! Depends on the size of the pond, type, size and quantity of fish and your low temps. Depending on those details, some leave the fish to over winter and others like myself take them in for the winter into aquariums.

Hello and welcome! Tell us more about your pond (size), what kind of fish you have, and what your climate is like during winter.

Part of the proceeds goes to Ian's retirement condo...no, wait, I mean the continued maintenance of GPF. Yeah, that's what I meant...

I just need to know what to do for my pond and fish in winter?
HI. How cold does it get by you? If you get snow and ice you will need to definitely do something. Is your pond at least a meter deep? Less than that might make it difficult to keep your fish outside If it gets below freezing.

More info needed.
Dimensions of pond.
Amount of water.
Depth of pond. This is real important.
Type and size of fish.
Growing zone of your area.
Do you have an aerator?
Any waterfalls?
Do you have a skimmer?
Submersible pump or external pump?
Size of pump.
Pictures would help too.

Welcome Peter! You might consider overwintering your fish indoors if you have just a few smaller fish. We have a bunch of people on this site who keep them indoors in larger aquariums or stock tanks. Could you please tell us how large (and deep) your pond is, the number and size of fish and whether you get hard winter freezes? Difficult to help without knowing your winter climate. There are parts of the UK such as Saint Mary's that normally don't hard freeze and knowing where you are would be helpful.
