I have a question. I have a relatively small (120 gal or so) pond that I have set into a deck for my dogs to play in. I do not plan to put in any fish or plants. It is meant only as a place for the dogs to play and cool off. I live on a sandy hill, and it will accumlate a lot of sand and leaves and grass (and toys) I have added a "roof" of shade cloth to cut the sun during the few hours it is in the full sun which will help with the fallout from the magnolia..

I anticipate draining it regularly (monthly? maybe every few weeks) . I will use this to water some trees down hill. I am reasonably sure I do not need a bilogical filter, especially since it will be drained with some regularity, but I do need to keep it clean of trash and rotting vegitation and to keep it aerated (or agitated) to keep the mosquitoes under control. I am reluctant to use the little donuts they sell for keeping skeeters down, for several reasons. I am wondering if adding some sort of simple filtration to capture particulate matter and then returning the water either in a fountain or waterfall to aerate it will suffice? Or am I totally off base?

With no fish, with changing the water as often as you do, that should work fine. Use coarse filter material, to catch the large stuff. Have the water go back into the pond. It should work great for you.
