So I have this dwarf umbrella palm in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. We're 8a.

How would you overwinter this guy? I’n thinking just protect it when it's super cold. While it's not super hardy, I’m thinking that'll be enough. It thrived over the summer but this is its first winter.

Just guessing but if you have one really bad freeze I don't think it will make it! I'd take it out and put in a garage or inside of house somewhere. I had 3 hardy Chinese Windmill palm trees that I grew from seeds and I covered them and only one made it. It's now over 10ft tall.

They're super easy to overwinter as a houseplant. Just stick the pot in a dishpan full of water & put it in a bright location indoors. Since you're a zone 8, it would probably do fine outdoors, but any frost/freezing temps will cut down all the current foliage & it will have to start over next Spring. If you bring it in, you won't lose all the green & you'll get a head-start on next growing season.

Thanks. Last thing I want is to lose it! I'll find a corner inside the house.
