Goldfish/koi LOVE snails. Slurp!!! Even my goldfish in my aquarium ate the large golden snails I bought once.

I have trapdoors with my goldfish, they seem to do ok, some are in the 3-4 inch range now. I am always sorting them out when I net the bottom of the pond and toss them back in.

I bought 3 dozen trapdoor snails earlier this year and they arrived 2 weeks ago. I put them in the pond but am not seeing any sign that they are active. How warm does the water have to be before they start crawling?

Mine were supposedly shipped out at proper time but no instructions. From what I have found out with searches they are dormant till water gets close to 70. The only moving they are doing is the koi pushing them around.

I tend to take these stories of snail-eating fish with a grain of salt. Snails need hard water to do well, as well as sufficient food. Once a snail dies, the fish will pull out the cadaver and devour it, leading people to believe that their fish are killing the snails.

My snails have been crawling around in 55 degree water, snacking on the plants etc.
