I know the answer is probably when it starts and stays snowing and ices. Will it hurt to put it in a few weeks. Live in Zone 5.

Hi Marie. Some people may not turn on the pond breather until there is ice forming, but I am turning mine on when I pull the pump so that the pond breather will continue to circulate the water.

I have mine is place, in the pond, but unplugged. I didn't want to fiddle with it when the weather turns cold....so now I'll just have to plug it in :)
