Where do you acquire moss (in TX)?

Your local home improvement store nursery may have mosses as ground cover for your climatic zone. Google is your friend. In some marginally suitable climates mosses may require establishment of a micro-climate to prosper. Best wishes.

We have some growing in the yard, or rather on some bricks in a shaded, moist area. I could send you some, but not sure how well it would transport. If we are talking about the same kind of moss. Let me know. I‘m in Shreveport.

Maybe find a wooded area where there is some moisture....and look around.

Note, I have never made hypertufa, but there is always a recipe for adding moss to the mixture — it always includes something like buttermilk.....so maybe, an area with acidic soil (or acid-loving plants).

Not sure if the moss in the 3rd picture is still viable as it’s been exposed to sun.

I would suggest the same - find a nice wooded area and see what you can find. Check rocks and fallen logs. Just be aware hat mosss will only grow where it stays moist.

If you do find it, you can "seed it" by mixing it in a blender with buttermilk and painting that mixture on rocks or logs that stay moist. We did this years ago with our kids as a fun experiment and it was actually quite successful!
