Hi all.

Any ideas what this may be in my small wildlife pond?
As you can see from photos it's all over the little pump filter and when I moved that plant all that white stuff you can see in the water came off its roots?

Not able to net it out as it just dissappears 😒

Sounds like foam to me. Someone else may have a better idea.

If it's foam it's called DOCs, dissolved organic compounds. Perfectly normal and natural. Just means there are materials breaking down in the water, like plant debris, fish waste, fish food, that sort of thing. Or there may be insufficient filtration.

It can be controlled by not overfeeding, not overpopulating and keeping dead leaves and other plant material cleaned out of the pond. Water changes and more filtration can also help.
It can become a problem if it is excessive but from those pictures there seems to very little in your pond.

This may not be the problem, and it's just my opinion. Hopefully someone else here will chime in.

it looks like a build up of calcium . I did that last year accidentally to my preformed pond . I put in to much crushed oyster shells . But your water could have alot of cacium in it also . I would test the foam it could be over feeding but it could also be the water you are adding . Get a test kit . Some people never test their water source with a test kit . I test my well water 3 times a year and after heavy rains . Water sources are a big concern these days

OK let's see if it's built up on the pump filter underwater it's not just foam. So my guess would be dieing algae. As it can Co white when it dies off did you recently add any algae products ?

It's all up the sides of the pond too, it does look like calcium.
This is just a wildlife pond, no fish in it.

I used to get calcium from my well until I put in a whole huse filter that back flushs it's self . If you can scrap it with your nail it could be calcium . I got a test kit from a hardware store to test my scaly stuff . Calcium attachs mostly to metal and tiles . Mostly hard surfaces . It is part of a source of hard water . City water seems t have lots of problems with what the call scale build up which was tested and found to be calcium here . Something failed they said in the filters in the city water system . I am glad I have well water and the whole house filter and now I see more city people investing in whole house filters that backflush themselves . The well driller said that when he hit 400 feet in the ground he hit a natural spring ledge because the water came up clear and clean , But since the ledge rock is not known that there could be issues with calcium after heavy rains and maybe some iron . So far no iron and I have my water tested every year just in case . The calcium came after we had that small eathquake a couple of years ago and so far has not come back after the wwhole house filter was found to be not working properly and new one was installed .
