Hi
1.I've got a small newish wildlife pond, which has developed a white, cloudy film almost over night. Pond has no frogs or fish, but lots of pond snails, insects & plenty of birds bathing in it. Any ideas what this is or if It will cause harm?
Secondly I Had losts of greater duckweed last summer, it vanished come winter, will this come back as temps rise? Have noticed the snails eat it, hoping they haven't just eaten it all.

hi nature brit, that looks like heron scat or a wood pigeon has had a nice bath in your pond and all the dust and associated crud that comes with the pigeon has gone into your pond, if it is heron scat you would be able to smell a fishy smell, hope this helps. cheers mark

If you take your finger and poke at it does it appear to push away from your poke. If so its natural and a sign of organics breaking down natural oils from plant matter

if you don't have any fish to eat the duckweed, more than likely you'll have more as it sets out seeds like crazy. I generally have times when it sems gone but it always comes back (in areas the fish can't get to).
