HELP! I'm trying to determine what is wrong with my dwarf lotus plants. I grew them from seed and before I transplanted them I had about 25 lilly pads with roots. I moved them to the container and put in pond soil that I purchased for them to root.
Then this.

How deep is the water they are in?
Were the leaves floating on the water or above?
Did you use any fertilizer?
I currently have 50+ lotus plants, some from divisions, most from seed.

You may have planted them too deep. Or you damaged them in the process. Why did you move them? They are best transplanted before they start growing in the spring. And I'm confused by the "25 lily pads" - you mean lotus pads, right?

The water is about 1 foot. At first the leaves were floating. I did add some miracle grow. All I have know are murky roots.
Are they dead?

The plants don't care how murky the water is, but they are picky about fertilizer and being moved. You didn't answer the question - if they were growing so well, why did you decide to move them?

Lotus don't like water deeper than 2-4". No aerial leaves- no fertilizer! Once they start producing leaves, moving them can kill the plant.

...Bucket from what I moved them from. I think I understand the process now.
Great learning lesson.
How much water should cover them?

What is the suggested container height for growing dwarf lotuses? I am going to try again the correct way.
