Window shut down one of my USB port, it said it was malfunctioning so I switched things around to free a side one and use it to upload images from my phone, I was able to use it a few times, then I tried it just now and it no longer works, I unplugged the printer from the USB port on the back of pc but window has shut that one down as well, plugged the printer back on, it works just fine so I don't get it!
Is there anything that can be done to reactivate USB ports that window disabled?

I used to have that problem as well, tried to control it but just wound up changing the usb connections as needed.
I haven't had that problem in a while though.
Restarting the computer usually reset things.
How old is your computer?

I think it's 3yrs old or somewhere around that
If the ports are bad how come the printer works fine?

If you upgraded your computer to win 10, all the hardware may not be compatible even though it ok'd your upgrade.
I upgraded one of my computers and had a bunch of problems; I eventually found out that the motherboard was not a recommended piece of hardware for win 10...

I rolled that computer back to win 7 and it seems to have fixed the usb issue.

I ran Troubleshooting, it said it fixed one issue but after restarting the pc whatever issue it might have fixed wasn't the one
on the second part " #3 right click USB and click update" it didn't give the "update" option
Thank you I will check it out!

How do you roll things back to window7?

You're past the "easy way to do it" time period, but there is a bit more involved method in this link:
https://www.howtogeek.com/220723/how-to-uninstall-windows-10-and-downgrade-to-windows-7-or-8.1/

Personally, if you don't mind fussing with the usb ports every now and then, and you are liking win 10, I would just learn to live with it.

I also have a newer computer that came with win 10 and am having no issues.
I like it.

You can't roll back unless you have Widows 7 disc.

I wanted update my PC to windows 10, but the tech guy who repaired my PC discouraged me said they have few months trial to update after that it deletes your old system, whatever Microsoft has fallen to category of door to door push seller.

what type of phone you are using?
:android, windows or apple

If the cable has a short circuit it might have disables it, to stop drain of excess current.

A: cheap solution will be to get an USB hub or what do you call it, it works most of the time if you connect single storage device/ will be slow to transfer or may show error if you connect more than one storage to that hub.

B:restore or format

Backup all important files, reset PC from " Change PC settings"=>General

refresh.jpg

(it works most of the time, but will make the PC bit slow after sometimes, thats what I was told )
Or

remove.jpg

(it will make your PC as good as NEW, deletes everything)

C:Enable wifi and share files through it

I have a Samsum8,!
I got this phone a short while ago, and all of my problems started the very first time I plugged it into the pc, I'm starting to think it has a builtin sabotaging program

Thank you @Rajesh I will follow your advice and hopefully nothing else stops working
