Pond, patio, and firepit are progressing nicely (if I do so say myself  )

Long range plan also includes the addition of a wood deck and gazebo behind the retaining wall.

All work so far, including digging and breaking rocks, has been done by hand.

Looking forward to finishing the hardscape this spring... then on to the planting!

Oh! I would have warned you to keep as far away from those trees as possible. leaves, seed pods, etc., make keeping a pond clean so hard. And you have to make sure that the types of leaves/pods, etc don't poison the water/fish.

You better be ready to build a very sturdy fall/winter covering before those leaves start coming down!

You definetly want to keep a negative horizon around the pond. make sure you divert any runnoff from above. With carefull planning, that should be easy to plan into your landscaping.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm planning to add another course of cinder blocks around the pond perimeter to help hide the liner. I think this will also help prevent runoff from entering the pond.

The trees are a concern, but there is no spot in my yard that isn't affected by trees and leaves. Fall is going to be a challenge.

Gotcha. You might want to keep black bird netting over the pond. When laid right, you can't even see it. Lots of folks on GPF have it on their ponds. Good for predators, too.

you want to keep the top of your pond a little above your hghest point in the grade around it. to prevent chemicals from pesticides, fertilizers, etc from leeching into pond water.
