PONDERS GOLD.........

About a month ago I glanced out a window at a facility I work at and noticed several huge piles of rocks were unearthed during excavation for a project they are working on. My head starting spinning with thoughts about what I can do with those rocks. So I found the project foreman and asked him what their plans were with the rocks. His reply was they were going to use them to fill the trenches they were digging. Without missing a beat I asked if he would mind if I could grab some. He gave me the green light to take as much as I wanted.
So with the help of my son and my son in laws pick up I have made 3 hauls grabbing approx 2-3 tons of rocks. Will make 1-2 more runs before they bury the rest .

Looks like I'm going to have a pond building project next spring and will be leaning on all of you for input.

Pretty impressive pile of rocks. Are they limestone? If they are you might want to use them more for decorative purposes around the pond because if they are in the water it might raise the ph. I had some limestone in my old pond but was always careful not to have too much.

Not sure what type of rock they are . I'll power wash the dirT off to get a better look and try to figure it out . Some of the gray speckled rock looks similar to the rock i havenand is in contact with the the pond water . My pH is around 7.6. Thanks for the heads up

ON loan does that mean you have to return them . That would be a lot of work. Seriously I have many creeks and streams near by. I would love to get some rocks but was worried if taking them was legal. I tried googling it but could not find any difinitive answers.
I don't look good in black and white stripes or an orange jump suit

Even in Cherokee I asked Chief Hicks if it was alright and he said no problem take what you want .He said they wash down from the mountains and clog up some of the streams and men and machines have to move them .I know where I take mine from it helps the streams flow better so farmers don't seem to care .They say it keeps them from have to dredge the streams to keep water moving .I even have some from Pennsylvania from my parents property .The stream was running slow and it was rocks .Heavy rain causes them to wash down stream and there they lay in big piles stopping or slowing water flow .

Gee and people wonder why it floods so bad downstream when it rains. I wish more properties did stuff to slow stream flow, encourage back-ups, and let it soak into the ground.

Problem is back ups in mountain areas can cause mud slides .It has to flow so giving it a deeper area at the bottom gives it more area .Chief Hicks told me they have to dredge out the lower streams 2 times a year because so many rocks wash down by the area of the casino and businesses that the Cherokee count on for revenue .The area has streams every where and rocks piled up every where .The mill was almost destroyed in one flood .They also have to protect there solar trees
