Elephant Ear Bulb

I have a question. I had an elephant ear that I purchased several years ago that died. (It was already a growing plant when I intially bought it). Finding established Tarro Ears in my area has been a challenge. So, I bought bulb to replace it. I have no expereince with bulbs. The bulb had a sprout. I planted the bulb in a pot and put it on the pond ledge. Will it grow? My wife is concerned that I shouldnt have planted the bulb until it was a growing plant. Any guidance?
