Lisak1 gave good advice for getting it going fast. You can see it growing deeper in the wild but for your pond start shallow.

I've found my pickerel rush will 'creep' into much deeper water (8 - 10" over the crown), but it starts out best when at the surface or just below.

Mine has been growing for years in a few pots, about 5ish inches below water surface. I had it more shallow to start years ago.

Right now it is about 2 inches above water level in growth.
