Moved into a house that has a pond so not very experienced with them. Just in the last few days the rocks turned green. Trying to determine if it's ok or I should do somethign about it (see photos).

Also wondering why it appeared only recently. The only thing we had done differently recently is put Pond Prime into the water about three weeks ago.

Thank you for any help!

That first picture, to me, looks like a brand new pond or one that has just been emptied & scrubbed clean. Perhaps the previous owners did that to make it look more 'neat' for sale purposes? It does not appear that there are any plants in the pond, so what you have going there is a nice layer of natural algae. It's not a problem at all. Why did you add the Prime? and are you planning on adding fish?

Normal to have algae, water in nature will always have it unless you kill it all and you don't really want to do that. Did you add Prime cuz you have chlorine/etc. in your city water? No need for it IMO in a new pond other than chlorine removal for city water.

Looks like string algae to me. Hard to get rid of but easy to keep under control. Get yourself a toilet brush from the dollar store and clean out the excess algae whenever it starts to look unsightly.
