Here is my pond set up. I am cleaning the filters and treating the blanket weed every 2 weeks at the moment. I had a serious green water problem after my spring clean in March so had to put my spare UV pump/filter in the top pond. All seems well now. Fish aren't interested in eating today as they're too busy chasing the female in each pond. We have newts and frogs in there too, and earlier in the Spring there was a grass snake in the garden near the ponds. I wasn't too happy about that but left it alone and haven't seen it since.

Welcome. Ye brits love your uv fters and cleaning filters.
Time to consider a bog and never not see the bottom of the pond ever again. We understand you folks have done things a lot longer then we have. TIME FOR A CHANGE

Just explained the bog theory to my other half, his reaction was pretty negative. Must admit, ponds are mine, plants etc are his pride and joy.

Welcome. I suggest you and your other half take a "stroll" through the many bog and pond posts and showcases here, to see the amazing planted bogs.
I am a convert to bog filtration and initially added a bog for water clarity for my fish and it works very well (I'm in Florida with heat and sun and algae barely under control pre-bog), and the biggest surprise was how much fun I am having with the plants in the bog. I am considering adding a second bog just for more plants (when the summer heat here relents).
Good luck! (I can't wait to see your new bog );)

At the bottom of this post I have a link to my show case. . I have a pitcher plant area all gardeners love and not many have. Very easy but must have constant water. I also just rebuilt the main bog I posted pics in a post somewhere in one month it's astounding how much growth there is and the colors
