I have a leak in my current old liner and have a new liner coming. My pond is about 500 gallons here in Cleveland, OH. I bought a 150 gallon stock tank to house the fish temporarily using the pond water. My question is that I have not had my waterfall running, so I currently have no biological filtration. When I replace the old liner, all of that beneficial bacteria will be gone with it. I was hoping not to have to cycle the pond once it is relined. When I remove the larger rocks that I have in the pond, I was going to put them in another container filled with pond water so I can hopefully use them to seed the relined pond with beneficial bacteria. Is this the best way? Any suggestions? Thank you!

I do think this would be one of the best ways! another solution would be to start cycling the waterfall bio filters in the stock tank now, so that when you are ready to start the waterfall back up, the bio filters are all ready to go.

what type of liner are you replacing the old one with?

I decided to go with the EPDM. I did order it from justliners.com.
Solid choice! Just wanted to make sure you didn’t get pvc. ( you would be replacing your liner as a weekly task with that stuff )

If you have some of the old liner cut some pieces covered with muck put them in the newly lined pond.
