Plants do need a balance of organic material plus minerals.
It can really vary by pond because of the source water, any fish food added and atmospheric dust that falls into an individual pond.
It's not simply "water plus gravel plus silt or detritus".
You should be aware of all aspects of your water quality.
-and be aware of what each plant species has for nutritional requirements.
