Hello, I have a bottom drain that sucks in water to the pump to feed the waterfall. Attached is a picture of what is connected to the drain and I have a larger cover over it, which looks like a big strawberry basket. The bottom of the pond has gravel and is uneven, so the larger cover doesn't sit flush to the floor and some fish were able swim up under the basket and they got stuck to the drain cover. I put some rocks there, to cover the gaps and I hope this works and they can't get close to the actual drain, to get stuck to it. Does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks

For anyone who cares, I think I found a solution. I'm going to order these and make a hole in the bottom, then put the green connector through that and glue it. Then put another basket on top and zip tie it, then I'll push the drain screen on top of the drain and the green screen will be enclosed in the baskets. I can pull it off to clean it and if any debris gets through the outer screen, I can cut the zip ties and clean it. Hope it works.

Since you are on the topic of safety ill add this. Any body of water that is deep enough that say if someone with long hair had it sucked into the drain and it could hold them under a second drain off the same pipe as the original and if has to be x amount of feet away. This way the second drain has to be large enough to handle tge draw of the pump. So no one can be held underwater. Check your local codes.

I have a 12 inch rhino drain that has ⁹a space at the bottom all the way around. Can of be too strong for fish even with a second drain yes i have had small butterflies particuraly get caught. Solution is old school if your dumb enough to get stuck with precautions your dumb enough to have a short life.

Update: I cut the hole in the bottom and put the drain through and used blue pvc glue, but it didn't adhere, so I just drilled some small holes in the drain and used black zip ties to fasten it. Then, I used zip ties to fasten the top basket to the top one and it was very solid and works perfectly. I can shut off the pump, remove the entire thing and hose it off and stick it right back on and there are no worries about fish getting harmed, anymore. I'm surprised that someone doesn't make something like this already.
