YIKES! Well, last summer my water was in the 90's prior to the shade sails [GF]. But I always thought that koi were more sensitive to and GF more tolerant of higher temps and that anything persistently above 90 would kill koi. Not something I want to personally test, however! Thanks for the info. The lethal water temperature for both Koi and Goldfish has been described in scientific literature as being between 100F and 104F.
True, and a shallow pond is more likely to overheat. The water depth that the temperature reading is taken is important. Temperatures closer to the surface of the water will always be higher. Best to assess the temperature both at mid-level and the bottom of the pond.
Can and or should I add frozen water bottles to a shallow pond ? I have aerator stones in there . I have a clam bed and some minnows with a few trapdoor snails. What would be an un comfortable water temp for them? The water depth that the temperature reading is taken is important. Temperatures closer to the surface of the water will always be higher. Best to assess the temperature both at mid-level and the bottom of the pond.
