Thanks so much for the info. Question: if the pump is in the skimmer I would imagine the water in that area freezes. Does that hurt the pump?

My husband said the same thing about the pump freezing up and expanding inside the pump! So I think I will take mine out and use the bubbler at the surface with the de-icer.

Mine is external, I have to yank mine, no choice.
