fishy smell around water garden

About 2 days after adding new Koi to my water garden I'm noticing a fishy scent in the air around the area. Is this normal?

Is there any foam / bubbles in the pond? If so, the koi may have spawned, which smells fishy.

I smell fish every now and then, but it's pretty rare. Just a quick whiff, and no more than maybe five times a year.

Sounds like spawning.

Could be spawning as @Mmathis said. However - are there any flowering Bradford pear trees near by? Those things can stink of dead fish if the wind is blowing the wrong way.
