is pea gravel safe for a pond liner if it will be stepped on a lot?

Hi all, i have a dog pond that needs rocks on the bottom. Pea gravel will be much easier to walk on, but I am worried it will punch through the liner which is .45ml epdm (edpm? empd? ... lol)

Is that a concern or is the liner a lot tougher than I am giving it credit for?

If it is too sharp I can go with round stones, but that is harder to walk on, and this will be walked on quite a bit.

FYI: No fish planned, no plants yet, 1500 gallons, 2ft deep, 9ft x 15ft

Thanks in advance!

Pea gravel is perfectly safe as a pond bottom. Just don't pour it on too thick. Wash it before you put it into the pond to remove the silt.

45mil EPDM is tough stuff.

And for the dogs, it should be OK. Just know that it's going to collect muck & junk that you'll have to either hose out or vac out every once in a while.

I ran over pea gravel with a tractor building mine, no leaks. I did not use epdm. Used ppl36.
Sharp edges (like big stones dropped) might cut through it, pea gravel is not that sharp
